Man United striker Rasmus Hojlund has an uncertain future after a season where he struggled at Old Trafford.
Rasmus Hojlund has entered the summer transfer window without knowing where he will be playing next season. The Danish international struggled for form, scoring just four goals in the Premier League, and his future is now uncertain.
There has been reported interest for the 22-year-old in the Serie A, with Napoli and Inter Milan both reportedly keen to sign him. However, it is unclear at this stage as to how much United would be willing to sell him for, considering that they paid £66m for him just two years ago.
Furthermore, if United do sell him, they will need to replace the Danish star with a striker, as they are in desperate need of a reliable number nine who can get close or surpass 20 goals in a league season next year.
Man United should swap Hojlund for Ollie Watkins
Villa rejected the bid as they wanted at least £60m for Watkins, who scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists for Unai Emery’s side last season. However, it was understood that he was unhappy when the Villa boss dropped him to the bench in favour of United loanee Marcus Rashford, so he could be willing to leave.
Man United should offer Hojlund in exchange for Watkins, as it would provide them with a proven Premier League striker, who has shown that he can be one of the best in the world when given the opportunity.
They could pitch the deal to Villa, outlining the fact that Hojlund still has a lot of potential at the age of just 22, with many believing that it was too soon for him to become the number nine for a big team such as United.
Hojlund is estimated to be worth around £30m, so it may be the case that if United were to propose the swap deal, they would likely have to add in some cash too. However, seeing as there is a chance that they could spend big on a Gyokeres or an Osimhen, this swap would save them a lot of money, and also help them offload Hojlund.
Hojlund told to switch to Aston Villa
Aston Villa have not been linked to Hojlund yet, but they have been told to sign him by former Premier League striker Stan Collymore. He said earlier this week: “I really like him as a striker, I think he’s got the basic attributes.
“But he went to Manchester United and it’s basically completely shattered his confidence. In Aston Villa’s financial position, £25m plus add-ons and a wage that would not be anywhere near breaking their high wage turnover would be favourable.
“I think that if Ollie Watkins were to go, they could do a lot worse than have a look at Rasmus Hojlund. He should have gone to someone like Aston Villa first, scored you 25 goals and then gone to Manchester United 2/3 years down the line.”
