It doesn’t look like Marcus Rashford will reconcile with Ruben Amorim and his dream move could be off too.
There aren’t many jobs where the individual gets to pick and choose where they work as Marcus Rashford sets his heart on a move to Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are well stocked in the forward line but the England international appears to be determined to head to La Liga and play for one of the hardest working and most exciting teams in Europe.
Given how things have worked out under Ruben Amorim and Barcelona’s financial constraints, it still feels unlikely that Rashford will be playing in Spain next season despite Alex Crook on Talksport suggesting that a loan move could be on the cards.
Is Marcus Rashford going to Barcelona?
Responding to the speculation, Rory Jennings can’t help but think that Rashford is falling up the way: “I think it's amazing for Marcus Rashford. I think that Marcus Rashford must be like, he must have an element of imposter syndrome at the moment. He can't believe his luck.
“But if he gets the move and he applies himself, it could be the coming of age moment that he needs. It could be the making of him because he will never get an opportunity like this again. And he knows that.
“I feel like this is a punt that perhaps some would argue that he doesn't deserve already. So it's amazing. And I guess from Barcelona's perspective, if Manchester United are going to cover a large chunk of the wages, maybe for them, they feel it's a free roll of the dice.”
The one question that only Rashford can answer
If Rashford does sign for Barcelona and hits the ground running, buying into Hansi Flick’s philosophy, it wouldn’t make him look better, only further justify the action that Amorim took in February to let the academy graduate leave to join Aston Villa:
"What I say is I couldn't put Marcus to see the way you're supposed to play football and to train the way I see it," Amorim said via Goal.
"And sometimes you have one player who is really good with one coach and the same player with another coach is different. I just wish the best to Rashford and Unai Emery, and they can connect because he's a very good player."
"The case was some of the guys don't adapt the way I see football, the other guys adapt, and we are trying to build the team," Amorim said.
"It's something that you feel, as a coach and a player. It's quite normal, it happened with a lot of coaches. The important thing is that I'm here saying it was my decision."
Barcelona play an even more aggressive and front-foot style of play than Amorim wants to so, if Rashford wants to see his dream become a reality, he will have to show a marked improvement in his attitude. It would be exactly the same if Newcastle United followed up their interest with their team first ethos.
Jennings is right, it is make or break time for Rashford in that one way or another, he has to show that he is willing to do the hard yards as well as make a difference in the final third.
