Personal favourite of Eberl: Bayern could be back in race for ‘sensational’ Liverpool star – report

Bayern Munich could be back in the race for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo after failing to land some of their top targets.

The Reds are spending money for fun this summer, having already signed Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez.

Arne Slot’s side could be looking to balance the books by offloading a few players, and Cody Gakpo can be lured to move to the Allianz Arena.

The Liverpool winger scored 41 goals and provided 17 assists in 129 appearances since moving to Anfield from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023.

Gakpo was not a guaranteed starter initially, but later became a vital player in Arne Slot’s system. The Dutch winger finished the campaign with 18 goals and seven assists in 49 competitive matches, helping Liverpool win their 20th top-flight title.

The 26-year-old produced some eye-catching performances, including a sensational display against Leicester City. Back in May, we reported about Bayern’s interest in Gakpo, but the German giants never made a concrete effort to sign him.

Bayern are struggling to sign some of their top targets, such as Nico Williams and Bradley Barcola. As a result, they could look for options elsewhere, and as per Bild, Gakpo remains in their sights along with Luis Diaz and Gabriel Martinelli.

Cody Gakpo could be a smart signing for Bayern Munich

While Liverpool winger Luis Diaz remains an option for Bayern, the German giants should move for Gakpo instead.

Christian Falk revealed to CaughtOffside that Gakpo is a ‘personal favourite’ of the Bayern chief, Max Eberl.

“Max Eberl should already be looking for alternative candidates for the wing. Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, for example, could be back on the radar,”the Bild journalist said.

“The player is said to be a personal favourite of Eberl.

“After initial talks with the Gakpo side, there has been no contact with the agents recently. That could now quickly change again. Teammate Luis Diaz also remains a candidate.”

What has been interesting to note is that Bayern have kept in contact with Gakpo’s circles, and therefore, it makes sense for them to consider him as a genuine alternative for Williams.

Gakpo can play on both flanks and as a striker, but it will require a massive transfer fee to lure him away from Anfield. Nevertheless, he could be a fantastic addition to the side.
