Journalist names the club Gustavo Hamer wants to sign for this summer amid Leeds United and PSV transfer battle

Gustavo Hamer looks like he could be on the move this summer after Sheffield United missed out on promotion to the Premier League, and Leeds United could yet be his destination.

Gustavo Hamer was the Championship Player of the Season in 2024/25. He scored 10 goals and assisted eight more in 44 Championship games, but it wasn’t enough to see the Blades promoted.

Sheffield United lost the Championship play-off final to Sunderland, and now it looks like Dutchman Hamer will be on the move this summer.

Leeds United have been linked with Hamer for some time now. The Whites took an interest last year and that interest has persisted up to now, with recent reports suggesting that Leeds could make a move for Hamer this summer.

But Daniel Farke’s side aren’t alone in their interest. It’s also understood that PSV have taken a keen interest in signing the 28-year-old this summer.

Gustavo Hamer could snub Leeds United transfer this summer

There are certainly options for Hamer this summer. And speaking to Leeds United News recently, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has said Leeds United will sign one of Hamer or Emi Buendia this summer, as Farke looks for a big upgrade on current no.10 Brenden Aaronson following promotion.

But Hamer apparently wants a move to PSV. Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink of ED has claimed that Hamer wants to move to PSV and challenge for trophies: at the same time confirming reports that Hamer could be sold for just £6.8 million this summer, and that he has other options than PSV.

Elfrink said: “Hamer could be picked up for around 8 to 12 million euros, depending on bonuses and other agreements. He wants to return to the Netherlands and play for prizes, but he has more options.”

What Ruben Selles said about Gustavo Hamer’s Sheffield United future

Speaking recently, new Blades boss Ruben Selles gave his verdict on Hamer’s future at the club. He neither ruled out a sale nor played up the idea of player sales at Bramall Lane this summer.

Selles said: “There is a room, actually, for us to get players we potentially want. I have not seen any other reality. I don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow, how it is going to change, how the market is going to evolve. The market is always fluid, but we are in a good place and have room to be in an even better place.”

But emerging reports of Hamer being available for a cut-price fee may suggest that Sheffield United are somewhat desperate for a cash injection this summer, or potentially that Hamer has some sort of clause in his contract which means he can leave for cheap after missing out on promotion.

Leeds United could be a difficult sell for Hamer who’s played in the Premier League before. The chance to move to PSV and challenge for trophies, and potentially work his way into the Dutch national side, could prove more tempting for the Brazilian-born midfielder.
