Arsenal may now be able to land one of their targets for a cheaper fee this summer.
Arsenal are said to be on the lookout for a top-class winger this summer as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season. The Gunners are mostly in the market for depth signings this summer, but the exceptions are at striker, winger and arguably midfield.
In those three positions, Arsenal are seeking starters, and it looks as though Martin Zubimendi will tick off the latter, leaving the Gunners in need of a starting striker and winger this summer. It’s likely the Gunners will have to pay big to tick off those positions, with few options available in both cases.
According to Fichajes, after deciding that Rodrygo is no longer untouchable, Real Madrid have lowered their asking price of €100 million, which appeared to be enough to put off teams around Europe. If Rodrygo’s price is indeed falling, it would make him significantly cheaper than Gordon, now available for somewhere less than £85million, while Gordon is likely to cost £100million or more.
Rodrygo said when asked about his future by DAZN recently: “Yes, well, anything can happen. I have a contract here, but the years I’ve been here have been a pleasure for me. No, no, don’t worry As I said, I always want to be at this club, but let’s see.”
The winger has also spoken about his enjoyment of playing with Kylian Mbappe in recent months. He said: “Playing with Mbappé and Vini Jr. is very special, it's a dream to play with such great players and to be part of that attack. Every day we connect better, we get to know each other better and we play better. This is just the beginning because we still have a beautiful story to write as a front-three.”
He added on his current club: “I love Madrid and I love living here. It's my favourite city along with Sao Paulo and Santos, the places where I come from. It's always been my dream to live here too, I always had the dream of playing for Real Madrid, so I'm really happy.”
While Rodrygo is a pricey option for Arsenal as they look to spend big in other areas, including a £53million fee for Zubimendi, the Brazilian is only 24 years of age, so they would likely be signing a world-class winger that would be at the club for at least five years.
Rodrygo is also a rare option who has already proven himself consistently at the highest of levels. He has won two Champions League titles, three La Liga titles and many other trophies. The Gunners need that kind of experience and winning mentality this summer as they look to finally get over the line next season.
