Man Utd need extra firepower in the attack and have been given the chance to sign a previous target on a Bosman.
Manchester United are finding out the hard way just how difficult it is to sign the players needed to help them climb up the Premier League table and to give Ruben Amorim the players he needs to make a proper impact.
The advent of PSR makes it almost impossible to rip up and start again in a single transfer window, as has the manager no long being able to sign and sell players throughout the season.
United have signed Matheus Cunha who will help to address some of the pressure on Bruno Fernandes to do everything by himself with an improved offer for Bryan Mbeumo likely to end what was in danger of becoming a saga. Two good signings, however, the need for a competent and clinical No.9 is even more important if the Red Devils are to turn defeats into draws and draws into victories.
Man Utd could land former target Luka Jovic in Bosman deal
Hugo Ekitike has been linked but the £85m price tag is a hard one to justify given that Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen are both on the market for less, however, Amorim could land a Bosman (free transfer) bargain that would ease the pressure in the short-term and provide an experienced back-up in the long-term.
Previously linked with a move to Old Trafford, Luka Jovic is available after leaving AC Milan and is on the lookout for a new club. The 27-year old is still looking to rediscover the Eintracht Frankfurt form that saw Real Madrid pay £60m for his services, but as a backup or rotational option, United could do a lot worse given that the Serbian has a point to prove and will be highly motivated to prove those who have written him off wrong.
United's financial constraints mean that landing an international and experienced striker without paying a transfer fee would also be a bonus as they continue the hunt for a first choice goalscorer.
Why Jovic could be perfect for Man Utd
Jovic has the perfect all round game to fit into Amorim’s system and it wasn't so long ago that Germany legend Lothar Matthaus was tipping Jovic for the top, via a column in Sun Sport:
"I see a real talent, a great talent - not yet a great player, but someone who could develop into one. What is clear is that he knows how to score goals. He is calm when the chances come, keeps his head and does what he needs to do to find the net.
"But the real quality is the runs he makes. He knows how to find space, to be in the right place and he has the speed to get there as well. Whenever his team attacks, Jovic looks to make the right runs. That is a huge skill to have.
"On top of that, though, is his mentality, his willingness to fight. We have seen that over the years from so many players from the former Yugoslavia. Jovic is a good technical player but he has become the spirit of his side at Frankfurt. He shows, every game, how much he wants to win.
"Jovic works for the team. And he leads the other players by his attitude, his determination and desire. That is the sign of a good player, a leader. You have to remember, sometimes, that he is only 21. He has plenty more to learn and will grow as a player.”
