Tennis star Ben Shelton has enjoyed a successful 2025 so far. The 22-year-old American reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and broke into the top ten in the game's world rankings. Yet it's his romance with US women's national soccer team star Trinity Rodman, 23, that's really caused ripples. The duo made their relationship public in March and they have courted significant media attention since.
However, if Trinity's surname sounds familiar that's because she's the daughter of basketball and Chicago Bulls legend Dennis Rodman. Rodman is a five-time NBA champion, known for being the battering ram of the iconic Bulls team that featured heroes such as Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippin. Yet it was Rodman's truly vivacious lifestyle that ultimately saw him burn through an incredible £20million fortune.
Rodman, now 64, pocketed millions through his NBA contracts with the like of the Bulls, Detroit Pistons and Los Angeles Lakers. While his penchant for partying and gambling saw his fortune dissipate, he also lost a hefty amount after going through three divorces, one of which was to famous model Carmen Electra - whom he was married to for five months in 1997-98.
Rodman’s controversies on the court cost him around £1m in fines, while he has been at the centre of several run-ins with the law over the years which have also hit his wallet hard. Rodman married Trinity’s mother Michelle Moyer in 2003, however she filed for a divorce in 2004.
Speaking on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast in 2024, Trinity made a heartbreaking admission that she has no relationship with her dad. "He's not a dad," she said.
"Maybe by blood, but nothing else," she added. "We tried to live with him. But he's having parties 24/7, bringing random b*****s in. He loves the spotlight, he loves the cameras, he loves bringing his children on stage and being like, 'oh these are my kids.'"
Trinity, who won gold with the USWNT at the Paris Olympics in 2024, was spotted supporting her partner Shelton at Roland Garros, where he reached fourth round, only to lose to eventual winner Carlos Alcaraz. Yet her romance with the Florida-born star has brought with it a share of online trolling.
Currently sidelined due to a persistent back injury, the Washington Spirit star was on the receiving end of criticism from some fans suggesting she wasn't taking her recovery seriously and was prioritising Shelton over her own career.
Rodman responded with an Instagram post. The striker shared a video of her daily rehabilitation routine along with a message that said: "Yes, I'm grainding almost every day in PT to get back on the field. NO, I'm not just being a wag and vacationing:) thank you."
Shelton's brief stay in the French capital saw him spend time with Trinity, with the duo taking to social media to share their daily adventures
One video showed the couple taking in the sights of Paris aided by the caption: "No one else", complete with a white-hearted emoji, with the pair firmly now confident of displaying their relationship to the world.
Shelton will now look to get underway Wimbledon next week, with the star seeded tenth. Rodman is continuing her journey to recovery.
