Pau Torres admits he plans to return to Spain at some stage in his career but is fully focused on another exciting season ahead at Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s side missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day of last season, but Villa are well placed to attack the upcoming campaign with the opportunity of lifting silverware and returning to UEFA’s elite club competition.

Winning the Europa League will be the aim, while competing for a top four finish will be Villa’s target in the Premier League.

Last season, Villa reached the FA Cup semi-finals but didn’t show up against Crystal Palace at Wembley.

Speaking to AS, Torres made himself clear about what he wants to achieve next season.

“I want to return to the Spanish national team, which is something that excites me a lot,” he started.

“I also want to fully compete in the Europa League to try to win it, play in the FA Cup final, and get rid of the thorn of the Champions League with Aston Villa."

Asked if he wants to return to Spain soon, Torres responded: “At 28 years old, I’m still young and have time for that. I’m happy at Aston Villa, and the challenges we have ahead motivate me.

“Returning to my country is something that excites me for the future, of course.”

Torres joined Villa from Villarreal in the summer of 2023, linking back up with Emery, who led the Spanish club to Europa League glory in 2021.
