Exclusive: How Manchester United are feeling after Bryan Mbeumo delay, what Brentford are asking for

June has been the month of Bryan Mbeumo for Manchester United, yet somehow the deal looks likely to stretch into July.

Brentford are proving to be a very difficult negotiator this summer.

Three weeks ago Manchester United saw a first bid of £55m (£45m plus £10m add-ons) rejected for Bryan Mbeumo. This led to negotiations to find a deal that suited Brentford.

However, despite all the talks, United’s second bid of £62.5m was rejected (£55m plus £7.5m add-ons), which is a surprise considering this is thought to be the initial demand.

In negotiations, Brentford have demanded a higher fee than Matheus Cunha cost United earlier this summer. £62.5m would match this demand, however, Ineos has been told it is not enough.

The chances of a deal happening remain high, considering Mbeumo has told Brentford he only wants to join United.

Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United latest

Signing Mbeumo has been made the top priority for Manchester United this summer, with the attack in desperate need of a player who has the brilliance of the Cameroon international.

After speaking with Graeme Bailey, United in Focus can confirm that the pursuit of Mbeumo remains at an advanced stage.

Despite the setback, United in Focus understands that the club remains confident that the signing can be done this month and that Mbeumo will be a Red Devil for pre-season.

United are just about at Brentford’s desired fee, however, it is expected that the guaranteed fee will need to begin with a six – so upwards of £60m.

However, United in Focus does understand it is more a matter of when not if, with no other clubs in the race.

Where will Bryan Mbeumo rank in record Manchester United signings

With the fee for Mbeumo rising since initial links, his position within the top transfer fees at United will also rise. Mbeumo will earn in the region of £150,000-a-week at United, which is well within the wage structure.

But where will his transfer fee stack up?

Manchester United’s most expensive transfers of all time

Paul Pogba – £89 million

Antony – £81.3 million

Harry Maguire – £80 million

Romelu Lukaku – £75 million

Jadon Sancho – £72.6 million

Rasmus Hojlund – £64 million

Bryan Mbeumo £62.5 million **

Matheus Cunha – £62.5 million

Casemiro – £60 million

Angel di Maria – £59.7 million

Mason Mount – £55 million + Add-ons

Leny Yoro – £52 million + Add-ons

Based on the latest bid, Mbeumo would rank as the seventh most expensive signing in United’s history, however, we would expect the final agreement to see him placed no higher than sixth with Rasmus Hojlund costing £64m.

Despite being expensive, Mbeumo is still worth it, with no right-sided 10 option better for United this summer.
