Leeds United offered to match the £30 million bid Sunderland tabled for Strasbourg attacking midfielder Habib Diarra, according to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons. However, the Senegal international will not be joining the Elland Road club and has opted to join the Black Cats. Leeds want to bolster their options in midfield and attack as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, tabling £22m for the versatile 21-year-old earlier this month.

It was not good enough to convince the Ligue 1 club and their latest offer has come a little too late, with the Senegalese choosing another club. The ‘magnificent’ winger ended last term with four goals and five assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances and he could have been a great option for Leeds.
