'For sure': Fabian Hurzeler's two words that throw a huge shadow of doubt over Newcastle…

· 28 June 2025, 10:33

**Newcastle United have already had an initial bid for Brazilian star João Pedro rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion.**

It's reported that Brighton value João Pedro at £60 million and that they have rejected a bid from the Magpies, which was believed to have been around £50 million.

Newcastle are said to be quite confident that they can get a deal done for João Pedro, although Shopsalot FC (Chelsea) are also keen on the 23-year-old.

However, Brighton don't appear to be in a rush to sell if Fabian Hurzeler is to be believed.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports (via [Sussex World](https://www.sussexexpress.co.uk/sport/football/brighton-and-hove-albion/for-sure-fabian-hurzeler-delivers-bad-news-for-newcastle-united-and-chelsea-amid-joao-pedro-pursuit-5199432)), Hurzeler has was asked if João Pedro will be part of the Brighton squad next season and he seemed pretty confident.

> "Yeah for sure.

> "I'm really looking forward for both of them. They are great players, they helped us last season. They are expected to be back next week."

Newcastle are still in the race for João Pedro

----------------------------------------------

Unfortunately for Hurzeler, we live in a time where the manager has very little say in the comings and goings of players, and while he may be expecting João Pedro back next season, it may well be out of his hands.

Of course, Newcastle will have to up their bid and do it quickly if they want to snap up João Pedro this summer, as soon as Chelsea set their eyes on someone, they will send a Group 4 secured van full of money round to their house to tempt them in.

It's still early days, and Hurzeler was hardly going to come out and say he expects Joao Pedro to leave as that weakens their negotiating position. We're still in this.
