Illan Meslier shows true colours as Leeds United transfer agreement truth clear

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier is putting the work in ahead of the new season as transfer talk swirls around the Frenchman.

It was reported in the Turkish press earlier this week that Fenerbahce had reached an agreement with the Whites stopper, with Jose Mourinho keen to secure the services of the 25 year-old.

LeedsLive understands that the Whites are yet to receive any bids for Meslier, though that doesn't mean he won't depart Elland Road this summer.

Meslier is not a player for sale but he could leave Leeds if game-time is not promised by head coach Daniel Farke. Farke dropped Meslier toward the end of Whites' Championship title-winning campaign and a new goalkeeper is high on the club's shopping list this summer.

Karl Darlow replaced Meslier for the final seven games of the 2024/25 campaign and with the pair - along with third-choice 'keeper Alex Cairns - only has one year left on his contract.

That means Leeds have only six months or so before Meslier can speak to overseas clubs about signing on a free transfer next summer.

Nevertheless, wherever he ends up this summer he is doing his best to stay sharp. Meslier was featured in a video on the social media platform Instagram earlier this week taking part in a catching drill.

Accompanying the post was a caption by an account named Pro Camp Football Academy, which read: "Ten days of full immersion in Vichy. Sweat, smiles, a few surprises and above all constant concentration and application from you Illan.

"Best is yet to come mate!"

Clearly, Meslier is putting the work in before he returns to pre-season training with Leeds - or secures a move away from the club.

Farke was clear on why he dropped Meslier back in April, sending a message to the goalkeeper about how he could reclaim his spot in the side.

"The goalkeeper position is not one you change week-to-week like outfield players," the Leeds boss said.

"Illan had the perfect February with many wins and many clean sheets, but in the last few weeks, there have been a few incidents where we thought he could have done better."
