Arsenal are in the market for a new striker this summer

Arsenal have been urged to look to the Premier League as they eye a new striker who can finally push them from second to first in the race for the title next term.

Mikel Arteta’s have been the main challengers for the Premier League in each of the last three seasons but finished second on each occasion. The biggest criticism of Arteta’s side last season was their lack of a clinical number nine.

Kai Havertz still scored 15 goals in all competitions despite spending the latter months of the season out injured. However, there is a feeling that an out-and-out striker is required to finally turn Arsenal into Premier League champions once again.

However, former Gunners defender William Gallas has urged his old club to “break the bank” by looking at an alternate target.

Arsenal urged to break the bank for Alexander Isak

Speaking to London World, Gallas feels that Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is the perfect fit for Arsenal and the Gunners must break the bank. The Sweden international is a proven Premier League player and has been dubbed as the last piece of the puzzle by Gallas.

The ex-Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur man said: “If they want to have a chance at winning the league next season, for me, it depends on if they go and sign a striker who knows the Premier League very well and has proven they can score the right amount of goals at the top level. And I think the only player who fits that description right now is Alexander Isak.

“I know it will cost a lot of money, but he constantly scores more than 20 goals and seems to keep improving each year in the Premier League. So Arsenal should break the bank for him. He is the last piece of the puzzle, I feel, a perfect striker.”

Newcastle United keen to keep hold of Alexander Isak

Isak has been linked with Liverpool but the Magpies will not let one of their star players go without a fight. He is under contract until the summer of 2028.

However, The Times has reported that Newcastle are keen to show their admiration for Isak by offering him a new contract to make him the highest player in the club’s history. Newcastle are in a strong position this summer in terms of Isak’s contract but the picture will look different in 12 months’ time.

A fee of around £150m has been mooted for Isak, so Arsenal will well and truly need to break the bank to sign the striker. Whether it is something the Gunners can afford remains to be seen as they look to find the striker that can turn them from nearly men into champions.
