Junior Firpo draws closer to his Leeds United exit after winning promotion to the Premier League at Elland Road.

The Dominican Republic international’s current contract at the Whites expires at the end of June, and he’s set to be a free agent in the coming days.

While Daniel Farke would arguably like Firpo to stay at the West Yorkshire outfit, it looks like his future lies elsewhere.

Real Betis have the ex-Barcelona left-back on their agenda, and it seems like a matter of time before they agree on a bargain transfer.

Leeds United exit set as Firpo extremely eager on Betis transfer

Firpo is “extremely eager” to join Betis after leaving Leeds this summer, Manu Fajardo says.

The La Liga outfit’s sporting director has revealed that they’ve been in talks with the defender over a return to the Estadio Benito Villamarin as a free agent, but there are still some loose ends to tie.

Firpo’s Championship record last season.

Farke’s team are expected to return to pre-season training in the second week of July, but the 28-year-old left-back may have to return to Thorp Arch early to empty his locker as his contract at Elland Road expires.

Speaking as relayed by Mundo Deportivo (27 June), Fajardo said: “It’s true that there are talks with Firpo. He’s a free agent. His signing hasn’t materialised, and there are still some loose ends. As an example, he’s a player who left in his day and is now extremely eager to return.”

Farke will need new left-back at Leeds soon

Sam Byram’s contract at Leeds also expires soon, leaving the recruitment department with a massive headache this summer.

If Farke loses both of his left-backs from last season, he will evidently need quality reinforcements in that area soon.

Firpo was immense at Elland Road in the previous campaign as the Whites won the Championship title, and his departure will undoubtedly be a significant blow for them.

Leeds would have hoped to keep their best players after winning promotion to the Premier League, as they hope to avoid immediate relegation.

The West Yorkshire outfit evidently need to bolster several key areas of their squad, and Firpo’s possible exit will give them another priority position to bolster in the coming weeks.

It appears that Betis haven’t reached an agreement with the Dominican Republic star yet, and it would make sense for the Whites to push for his contract extension.

The Peacocks will surely have to spend a significant sum to replace the 28-year-old defender, and the situation in LS11 will be one to watch closely.
