Sources: Brentford make transfer decision on 'unbelievable' £40m star's future amid Andrews…

Brentford have made a decision on the future of striker Yoane Wissa after confirming the appointment of Keith Andrews as their new manager, GIVEMESPORT sources understand.

The Bees are undergoing a summer of major change after Thomas Frank left the Gtech Community Stadium to become the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, while key players Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard look set to depart to join Manchester United and Arsenal, respectively.

There has also been big speculation about the future of several of their other stars as they enter a new era, with striker Wissa among those linked with a move away amid interest from some top Premier League clubs.

Brentford's Yoane Wissa

Wissa, who has been described as 'unbelievable', had a career-best season in 2024/25 as he scored 19 Premier League goals to help the club to a tenth place finish.

Reports have suggested that clubs such as Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham have shown an interest in Wissa, but with Mbeumo and Norgaard also set to depart, new manager Andrews wants the attacking situation at the club resolved as a matter of urgency.

The Irishman has stepped up from set-piece coach to head coach, and while he is excited about the job GMS sources understand that he hopes the club can hold onto the 28-year-old striker so that they are not starting from scratch in his first season in charge.

Wissa

Sources also understand that during talks leading up to the appointment, there was an acceptance that they would be facing a difficult start to the season if they lose him as well as Mbeumo and Norgaard.

Wissa and Mbeumo combined for 39 Premier League goals last season between them and the Bees will undoubtedly find that difficult to replace, regardless of their excellent transfer record in recent years.

Because of that, it is understood that the club want to know the situation well in advance of the new season or they will not allow the DR Congo international to leave regardless of the interest being shown.

Interest in Wissa stretches back to the January transfer window, where the club rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest that didn't match their value, and the player's head did not turn in the second half of the season. Brentford would not expect that to change in 2025/26 should a move not materialise once again.

With an internal deadline now in place for the deal, clubs will be forced to make their moves concrete in the coming weeks or face missing out on a top target.
