Man Utd are gradually adding depth to the forward line, but could one signing see a fan favourite benched?

Manchester United are slowly working their way through a lengthy shopping list even if the priority remains to move on those who have been deemed surplus to requirements.

It is easy to feel sorry for Ruben Amorim, despite the shambolic nature of last season. What might go against the Red Devils’ boss is if he jettisons a fans’ favourite to make room for a new signing.

Could signing Bryan Mbeumo cause Man Utd another problem with a forward?

United fans have every right to be excited about a forward capable of getting 30 goals and assists and Mbeumo can play almost everywhere across the forward line, however, it could also have an impact on Amad Diallo’s game time.

Despite an injury hit season, Amad was still one of the highlights with the Ivory Coast international making the sort of impression under Amorim that neither Rashford nor Alejandro Garnich could make.

Is the writing already on the wall for Amad?

After scoring key goals against Arsenal, Liverpool and then a hat-trick against Southampton, Amorim was keen to keep the young forward’s feet on the ground, via BBC Sport:

“I didn’t say anything to him, I will tell him tomorrow,” he said. “But he has to rest, eat good and prepare for Sunday because we will need him again. He did a great job, it’s a great moment for a young kid to score a hat-trick for a club like this. But he needs to focus on the next match already…

“The important thing is to win and he helped us to win. He’s doing a very good season. I’ve already said, you have to be careful with young kids. He did a really good job today.

“He has a lot to improve but this game is in the past and you have to prepare for the future. Football is like this and life is like this.”

Amad won’t be able to improve if he is sitting on the bench with the signing of Mbeumo raising a question about whether or not his future lies at Old Trafford after all, his manager wanting more after a hat-trick maybe should have been a clue.
