Napoli are set to make one final attempt to sign Darwin Nunez from Liverpool, with an alternative already lined up.
That’s according to journalist Orazio Accomando, who reports that there is still a ‘long distance’ between Napoli and Liverpool over the Uruguayan.
He explains that Napoli are moving forwards on a deal for Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca. They’ve struck a deal worth €35m with Udinese for the striker, with bonuses included. That means the 24-year-old is now only a few steps away from the Serie A champions.
They won’t sink the final blow until they’ve completely given up on Nunez, though. The Liverpool striker is still the man they would like to sign for Antonio Conte.
The problem is that there is still a ‘long distance’ between Napoli and Liverpool on the striker. In other words, the two clubs value Nunez very differently at this point. A report earlier this week had Liverpool looking for €70m, while Napoli did not intend to go beyond €40m.
That was followed by a claim that the Italian champions had abandoned the move and were instead focused on Lucca.
It seems that is not quite the case yet, as they’re planning one ‘further attempt’ with Liverpool, but the signs are not positive and a move to Naples is diminishing into the distance for Nunez at this point.
