Brentford 'join' Leeds United in transfer race to sign coveted Belgium midfielder

Leeds United are scouring the market in search of midfield reinforcements ahead of their Premier League return. It is understood Union Saint-Gillois star Noah Sadiki is a player of interest.

But Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has revealed Brentford, who appointed Keith Andrews as their new head coach yesterday, have joined the race to sign the 20-year-old. Posting on his X account, Tavolieri wrote: "Brentford FC enter the race for Noah Sadiki!

"In search of a defensive midfielder this summer, Bees are looking to rival Leeds United & Eintracht Frankfurt, who still negotiate personal terms. Everything can still change. The outcome, here, soon."

Sadiki featured prominently in Union SG’s Belgian Pro League title-winning campaign, racking up 29 appearances to help them secure a Champions League place. Although he is primarily a midfielder, the Belgian was also utilised at full-back and centre-back.

United have so far been thwarted in their attempts to bolster the midfield engine room this summer. A £22m bid for Strasbourg star Habib Diarra was rejected earlier this month and the Senegal international now looks set to join Sunderland in a £30m deal. Diarra is regarded by the Black Cats' recruitment team as a viable replacement for Jobe Bellingham, who recently joined German giants Borussia Dortmund. Brighton and Hove Albion and Everton were also credited with an interest in Diarra, who was a key man in the Strasbourg team who finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season.

Central midfield is a department where the Whites are low on numbers following Josuha Guilavogui's release and Joe Rothwell heading back to Bournemouth following a productive loan spell. Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev are currently the recognised senior options Daniel Farke has at his disposal in the centre.

United have made two summer signings, bringing in Lukas Nmecha and Jaka Bijol from Wolfsburg and Udinese respectively.
