Man United dream Viktor Gyokeres transfer scenario emerges in£59.7m Ruben Amorim boost

Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting runs in the field

Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with Manchester United and Arsenal this summer

Manchester appear to have received a boost if they look to sign Sporting striker this summer.

ever since his former head coach, Ruben Amorim, arrived in November. A reunion made sense, with United needing a proven goalscorer and Gyokeres looking for a new challenge in his career.

But the Reds' failure to qualify for next season's Champions League seriously dented those hopes, and it was thought that Premier League rivals would now be his preferred destination. The Gunners are also more realistic title challengers next season, and at 27, Gyokeres will be looking to join a team capable of winning major trophies.

Arsenal do not just have Gyokeres on their list of potential attacking targets this summer, though. Benjamin Sesko, previously linked with United himself, is also on Mikel Arteta's shortlist.

And now, German publication has provided some welcome news for United. It is said that RB Leipzig have dropped the asking price of Sesko, which could in turn hand Amorim a welcome boost in his pursuit of Gyokeres.

It was previously thought that the Bundesliga side were demanding a fee of between €80million and €100m (£68m and £85m) for Sesko. That had put off the north London club, who reacted by exploring alternative options.

However, it is now being suggested that a fee of €70m (£59.7m) might be enough for the 22-year-old. Sesko is under contract with Leipzig until June 2029 and scored 21 goals in 45 games across all competitions last season.

The Slovenian is seen as Arsenal's preferred option up front this summer, and with him now potentially being available for a cheaper fee, his move to the Emirates Stadium is much more likely. That will only be good news for United if they look to sign Gyokeres.

It comes after the forward rejected a financially lucrative move to Saudi Arabia in May. Al-Hilal made a £55m offer, which Sporting rejected, but Gyokeres made clear he had no intention of moving to the Gulf state - and he wants to continue to compete in Europe.

As such, the Sweden international is reportedly increasingly aware that his best bet this summer may be to reunite with Amorim in Manchester.
