Valencia captain Jose Gaya has issued an update on the future of team-mate Cristhian Mosquera.

Mosquera is available for a cut-price fee this summer and was included on a long list of centre-back targets identified by Aston Villa before the season had even ended.

Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the player, with multiple sources claiming Valencia have rejected the Gunners' opening offer, although it is said talks are ongoing and that sporting director Andrea Berta remains keen on taking him to the Emirates. It is added that personal terms are 'not an issue'.

Mosquera isn't the only in-demand Valencia youngster. There's also interest in Javi Guerra and Cesar Tarrega, but Gaya hopes that the trio will stay put.

Speaking to Spanish radio station A Punt, the Valencia star explained: "I would be delighted if all three could stay because I think they can give a lot this new season and bring a lot of joy to the fans.

"As of today, unless there's any breaking news, I think all three of them are still with us, and I hope it continues like this, and they continue to grow as players."

Mosquera has been with Valencia since the age of 12, progressing through the academy ranks before making his first-team debut in January 2022.

Last season, the 21-year-old impressed under Carlos Corberán as Valencia went from relegation candidates to contenders for European football after Christmas.

Former West Bromwich Albion boss Corberán also brought the best out of Enzo Barrenechea, who was on loan at the Mestalla from Villa last term.

Mosquera has just one year remaining on his contract, meaning he could be available for a relatively modest transfer fee.

Reports in Spain suggest it could be as low as €18 million (£15 million), despite the youngster's strong performances under Corberán and his tally of more than 87 professional appearances.
