Valencia's skipper, Jose Gaya, has provided an update on the future of his team-mate Cristhian Mosquera following a confidential bid from Arsenal. The 21-year-old Mosquera has caught the eye of the Gunners as they look to bolster their defensive line-up in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal's initial offer was turned down, with Valencia standing firm over Mosquera's future, despite the Spanish player having only a year left on his current contract.

The Gunners remain undeterred in their pursuit of Mosquera, who recently played a key role in Spain's journey to the quarter-finals of the under-21 European Championship.

It's reported that Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig also hold the right-footed centre-back in high regard.

Mosquera isn't the only Valencia youngster attracting attention. Javi Guerra and Cesar Tarrega are also on the radar of several clubs, but Gaya is hopeful that all three will remain at Valencia.

In a chat with Spanish radio station A Punt, Gaya expressed: "I would be delighted if all three could stay because I think they can give a lot this new season and bring a lot of joy to the fans.", reports the Mirror.

"As of today, unless there's any breaking news, I think all three of them are still with us, and I hope it continues like this, and they continue to grow as players."

Valencia's priority is to secure Mosquera with a new contract, as they have no plans to offload him or his two colleagues this summer.

However, the La Liga side faces a challenge with the star already agreeing personal terms with Arsenal, who appreciate his versatility in playing both right-back and centre-back positions.

Earlier this month, Mosquera's agent, Sergio Barila, confirmed that his client was 'very happy' at Valencia, which has finally secured funding to build a new stadium after years of delays.

Barila also disclosed that negotiations for a contract extension were underway.

Ever since joining Valencia at the age of 12, Mosquera has been tipped for greatness. Academy coach Miguel-Angel Angulo praised: "He is characterised by a physical condition and good technical qualities, powerful in the air, and mature for his age."

Mosquera contributed to Spain's gold medal victory at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 before making 41 appearances for Valencia last season. He played the full 90 minutes as his country fell to England under-21s in the quarter-finals of the Euros.
