'Not being talked about': Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool are doing something amazing under the radar this summer

Liverpool have been one of the busiest teams in the summer transfer window thus far, with five new players getting added to Arne Slot’s ranks.

Some, such as Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman, are likely to be brought in as back-ups should something go wrong with Liverpool’s first-team squad.

Whereas others, such as Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, have been brought in to compete for a place in Liverpool’s starting XI.

The Reds aren’t usually as active in the transfer market as this, but it at least shows that they’re looking to retain the title and become even better next season.

Of all Liverpool’s new arrivals, however, Florian Wirtz is arguably the biggest coup of them all, with the Reds fending off some European powerhouses to bring him to Merseyside.

Rio Ferdinand hails Liverpool for signing Florian Wirtz and their ability to beat teams to transfers

Liverpool have always been seen as one of the biggest clubs in England, but their Premier League win during the 2024-25 campaign has further sealed that.

And, even though Slot has spent close to £200million on adding these players to his squad, it doesn’t feel like they’re going to stop anytime soon.

Ferdinand, while presenting his Rio Reacts Podcast, shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s transfer business and said the following: “I think what’s not being talked about enough is Liverpool’s ability to go and get a player that City were after, Bayern Munich were after and reportedly Real Madrid were also after,” he said.

“And Liverpool have come out on top in that.

“I can see it so clearly at the club right now; I can see their whole process and their vision – it’s so clear – and as a player, that’s what you want when you walk into the club and they’re pitching the project to you.

“I can imagine Wirtz coming out of that meeting with Slot and saying ‘don’t take any calls from any of those other clubs, I’m going here’.”

Liverpool need to sell Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz as soon as possible

As well as the arrival of many players, Liverpool have also been rumoured to want to sell some of their talent.

At the moment, it feels like Darwin Nunez is the most likely to leave Anfield this summer, with Napoli the team closest to securing a deal.

The striker has been in poor form over the last couple of seasons as he has only managed to bag seven goals across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.

Luis Diaz is another Liverpool attacker who looks to be on his way out.

When the window first opened, it felt like a sure-fire thing that the Colombia international would be joining Barcelona, but in the end, nothing came to fruition.

If Liverpool want to continue being the dominant force in the 2025-26 summer transfer window, they’re going to have to sell some of their players soon so that they can top up their piggy bank.

Otherwise, they’ll not be able to bring in any new faces and could end up costing themselves the Premier League title.
