Potter poised to move for first choice striker | Report

For once, West Ham would appear to have the upper hand in relation to beating off other Premier League opposition for [Graham Potter’](https://www.claretandhugh.info/not-in-potters-plans-hammers-fan-favourite-on-burnleys-shopping-list/)s reported ‘top choice’ striker: That is, as distinct from all the other ‘top choice’ strikers reported in the last few weeks.

For whilst Wolves, reportedly, also have an interest in signing **Evann Guessand,** the Hammers’ dealings with OGC Nice over Jean Clair Todibo give them an edge in both communications and credibility, somewhat surprisingly.

Providing INEOS’ link between Nice and Manchester United doesn’t prevail and take the striker out of reach of West Ham, here is one European club which the Hammers have not upset in recent years (probably as Tim Steidten brokered the JCT deal).

Guessand – a ‘proper’ striker -is reportedly available around the £25 million mark and West Ham are ‘ready to move’ according to [_givemesport.com_](https://www.givemesport.com/west-ham-ready-to-move-for-elite-25m-striker-as-potter-priority-emerges/) today, who claim:

**“_West Ham Poised To Move For Guessand:_** _Graham Potter appears to be an admirer and needs a new number nine amid problems in the position. Guessand was in fine form last season, registering 12 goals and nine assists in 33 Ligue 1 outings at the Allianz Riviera. He is a versatile attacker whose best work comes as a number nine, but he can also adapt to a winger role.”_

And at £25 million, Guessand  is head and shoulders above most of the alternatives in West Ham’s price bracket, and would fit into West Ham’ Potter style. According to breakingthelines.com:

“Guessand is best described as an inside forward. A hybrid between a striker and a winger.” – Kind of a direct Kudus replacement for a third of the fee. However those paying close attention will note that Guessand – as Kudus – favours the _**inside right**_ position – so there’s a sense of deja vu with the Bowen situation.

Let us trust in Potter and hope Guessand is happy to work on the left!
