While the New York Knicks’ head coach search has expanded to include first-time head coach candidates like Micah Nori, a team insider believes that is nothing more than the team doing its due diligence.
This week, the Knicks reportedly spoke with highly respected Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori about their head coach opening. It was an unexpected pivot from their recent pursuit and interviews with veteran head coaches. However, SNY Knicks insider Ian Begley believes fans should not take such interviews seriously.

“When you ask about Nori and interviews, I think the interview process matters in a big way. I always kind of assume when these coach searches happen, people have a top candidate in mind,” Begley said on The Putback. “He is always there in the background, and other guys who interview are kind of break-the-glass-in-case-of-emergency [options].

“In this case, with Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown, the interviews matter significantly. If neither guy blows Knick brass away, maybe they go to Plan B. And if Micah Nori does impress Knick brass, maybe he does leapfrog these guys. But I would be really surprised, though, if that were to be the case,” he added. “If they went with a first-time head coach over the experienced candidates that they have already talked to.”
The team spoke with the former Sacramento Kings and Memphis Grizzlies head coaches last week. There have also been rumors that the front office plans to exhaust all options in the hopes Jason Kidd will force his way out of Dallas. Despite Mavericks management making it clear they will now allow New York to talk with their current head coach.
