Man United's next move after Mbeumo could define their entire summer

Manchester United have taken significant strides toward fixing their goal-scoring problem, opening the checkbook for Matheus Cunha, with Bryan Mbeumo expected to follow him to Old Trafford soon.

Various reports indicate that United are close to completing a deal for the Brentford forward, and his arrival could help skyrocket the team's goal production. However, none of that matters if United can't fix a problem at the other end of the pitch.

It's no secret that the club is exploring options to replace goalkeeper Andre Onana, and they could soon pivot to Diogo Costa once the Mbeumo deal is over the line.

"United's priorities after Cunha/Mbeumo is a striker but if sales are positive, they will look to upgrade on Andre Onana," reports Anil Kandola of talkSPORT. "Portuguese international Costa is rated highly at United and is someone they're monitoring/could move for, if their budget allows them to."

The 25-year-old Portugal international could fix United's goalkeeping problem. He has plenty of experience, having made 35 appearances for his national side and 135 for Porto.

Man United should push to sign Diogo Costa after finalizing Bryan Mbeumo deal

United have understandably been connected to several goalkeepers this summer, which shows they are casting a wide net in their search. Trying to land Argentina's World Cup hero Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa won't be easy, and those hopes could be fading fast.

Costa could be the solution.

A move for the Porto goalkeeper may require some other pieces to fall into place, as Kandola reports for talkSPORT.

United have already invested heavily in attacking positions in this transfer window, and they must now find a way to generate more funds through sales. Wages may become an issue for Jadon Sancho's potential move to Serie A, and there remains uncertainty over what's next for Marcus Rashford.

Being able to move quickly with outgoing moves could help accelerate United's next big splash in the market. They undoubtedly still need a No. 9 to play alongside Cunha and Mbeumo, but upgrading at goalkeeper must remain high on the to-do list.

Costa could be United's savior and next priority once they get the Mbeumo deal over the line.
