Chelsea are reported to have entered the race to sign Manchester United-linked Emi Martinez.

Speculation around the Aston Villa goalkeeper and his future remains at fever pitch this summer. Several reports have underlined Martinez, 32, as a potential replacement for Andre Onana.

The Manchester Evening News understands Onana is expected to stay put this summer. However, after making a few high-profile mistakes at Old Trafford and beyond, signing a new first-choice goalkeeper has been tipped.

Although not a concrete target, as things stand, Martinez continues to be the key name being flagged up. He has been a mainstay between the posts for Villa since his transfer to Villa Park from Arsenal in 2020.

A transfer fee around £30-40 million has been suggested, but fresh reports from The Mirror indicate Chelsea have been "offered the chance" to sign Argentina's No.1 for £45million.

However, despite that seemingly emerging rival for his signature, the same article notes that the feeling - back in his native South America - is that Martinez would prefer a switch to Old Trafford still.

The goalkeeper has 52 senior caps to his name and famously played a major hand in the nation's 2022 World Cup triumph.

United have been active in the market so far this summer, with Matheus Cunha joining the club from Wolves, and Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo lined-up to follow him through the doors. That anticipated £120million-plus outlay is long-awaited for Ruben Amorim and Ineos as they put emphasis on attacking recruits this summer.

Martinez was, incidentally, sent off at Old Trafford on the final day of the 2024/2025 campaign.
