Liverpool clause confirmed as Jarell Quansah medical booked

Liverpool player Jarell Quansah is on the verge of completing his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen as the figure stipulated in the buyback clause has been confirmed.

The centre-back will leave Anfield after struggling for gametime under Arne Slot, who substituted the 22-year-old off at halftime of the Reds’ Premier League opening weekend win over Ipswich Town.

Quansah only made 11 starts across all competitions last season, with four of those coming in the top flight. He now leaves in search of regular minutes, but he may find himself back on Merseyside in the future.

Leverkusen will pay a £30 million transfer fee to sign the defender from Liverpool, with a potential £5m in add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool will pay double what they received for Quansah if they want to take him back down the line, with the buyback clause said to be worth £60m. That could even reach £70m based on add-ons.

The England U21 international will undergo his medical on Monday ahead of completing his move to the German outfit. Coincidentally, Quansah is expected to start against Germany in the final of the U21 European Championship on Saturday evening.

This will be the third deal conducted between Liverpool and Leverkusen this summer after Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz joined the Reds for a combined £129m, which could rise to £145m.
