Potential twist in Junior Firpo Leeds United exit – ‘deal is yet to be completed’

This week will be a crucial one for Leeds United. The club find out which players will be leaving Elland Road as they prepare for pre season.

The Whites are set to jet off to Germany for a training camp in preparations for the Premier League. Unfortunately for the fans, German authorities will prevent any Leeds supporters from being present at the base. The club have already issued a statement with an apology on the situation.

It has all gone quiet on the Sam Byram front, no news has emerged after contract talks were held. Leeds were keen to keep Firpo and even offered him a new contract during talks. The 28-year old is yet to respond, with many assuming he has completed a move to Spain.

Real Betis Sporting director Manu Fajardo has revealed that a deal is ‘not yet done’ for Junior Firpo:

“It’s true that there are talks with Junior Firpo. He’s a free agent.” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“His signing hasn’t materialised, there are still some details to be worked out. Let him serve as an example that he’s a player who left in his day and is now extremely eager to return.”

“Does the salary have to be lowered? We’re proud that players who left are willing to come back, putting other things before financial matters. If Real Betis, for example, has a chance of bringing Junior Firpo back, it’s because the player is more than willing to put these kinds of issues behind him.

What do Leeds lose with Firpo gone?

The left back played a key role in Daniel Farke’s system. His ability to bomb down the flank was a key reason why the team scored a lot last season. Firpo ended the season with 10 assists – which ranked sixth in the Championship and second in the Leeds team.

He also created 47 chances, which was the fourth highest in the team. Daniel Farke will miss out on a huge attacking edge, hopefully Leeds can find an adequate replacement.
