Newcastle United are reportedly optimistic they will agree on a deal with Brighton & Hove Albion for Joao Pedro before their pre-season begins next month.
ChronicleLive reports that the Magpies are in "advanced talks" to sign Pedro, with "high-level negotiations" underway to finalise the transfer. There remains a £10m gap in valuation between the two Premier League clubs for the Brazilian forward who has long been on the Tyneside giants' radar.
Pedro is expected to welcome a move after nearly arriving at St James' Park three years ago before making the switch to Brighton the following summer. He sat out the Seagulls' final game of last season after a training ground incident and may have played his last game for the club.

Pedro's move to Newcastle looks increasingly likely but Brighton are still demanding a fee close to £60m after the Magpies failed with a £50m offer. The Seagulls' demands come partly because his former club, Watford, have a 20% sell-on clause in any sale.
Eddie Howe will want to have the 23-year-old in his squad ahead of pre-season, but the club's transfer chiefs are showing caution amid interest from other Premier League clubs. He has been hailed a "superstar" and is being eyed as the first major signing and departing sporting director Paul Mitchell is said to have done the groundwork on a deal.
Chelsea are also admirers but have yet to make a bid and trail Newcastle in the race for the three-cap Brazil international. Initial talks over personal terms have taken place, but no agreement has been reached, which keeps the door open for other potential suitors.

Howe's troops will return to the Champions League next season after their fifth-placed finish in the league and he wants more depth in attack. Pedro offers versatility, able to play out wide despite his favourite position being as a centre-forward.
Alexander Isak's future has been the subject of speculation, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona setting their sights on the Swedish striker. The Magpies are eager to get him tied down to a new long-term deal and are reportedly prepared to break their wage structure to extend his stay at St James' Park.
Pedro's potential arrival doesn't relate to Isak's situation, and instead, he could replace Callum Wilson, whose current deal expires on June 30. The 33-year-old was in talks over an extension but he could make way should a deal for the Brighton man get over the line.
