Chelsea refuse to guarantee young defender regular minutes

Chelsea have a very high squad number. Hence, many of their players have suffered from irregular game time. Now, the Blues have refused to guarantee young defender regular minutes. This will result in him leaving the club this summer.

Chelsea have a very high squad number despite Maresca trimming it. Many of the players had to sit on bench regularly. Hence, some left on loan, some left permanently whereas some were told by Maresca to find new club. The Blues are set to do the same this summer too.

The Blues are set to sign some new defenders this summer. But, this will reduce the game time of current players even further. One player who is affected by this is Renato Veiga. The Portugese was already away from Chelsea on loan. He spent the half of the 2024/25 season at Juventus in order to play regularly.

Renato Veiga to leave Chelsea soon?

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea have refused to guarantee Renato Veiga regular game time at centre-back position. Hence, the player is very likely to move away from West London this summer. The Blues are ready to sell him permanently if they receive any offer near £30 million.

Veiga is only 21 years old and Chelsea signed him only in last summer. But, they are not really impressed with him. Enzo Maresca views him as backup for Marc Cucurella at left-back position. But, the Portugese mainly plays as centre-back and wants to play in that position.

There are many clubs showing interest in Veiga right now. The player can be easily convinced by offering regular game-time. But, it will depend on if the interested clubs are ready to match Chelsea’s valuation. Thr Blues can even opt to keep him if they fail to land new defender. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds.
