George Best named his two 'most complete' footballers ever - included Liverpool icon

George Best was one of the most captivating footballers of all time. The former Manchester United man was dazzling on the pitch and was always looking to put on a show. Whether it was for club or country, he had a knack for making magic and is still beloved by fans over four decades after his retirement.

He was unlike anyone else and is considered one of United's greatest ever players. He wasn't afraid to shower praise on other footballers in the spot, though. In fact, he once described a Liverpool player as one of the 'most complete players of all time'. That comment might rub some Red Devils supporters the wrong way considering the rivalry between the two sides, but considering the player he named, it's hard to hold it against him.

George Best Named Kenny Dalglish as One of the Most Complete Players Ever

He also named Alfredo Di Stefano

More often than not, footballers are elite at one or two things. Wingers can be incredible dribbles and crossers of the ball, while defenders may thrive when tackling and heading it. Not often do you see footballers who are skilled in almost all areas. There are some, though, and Best named the two players that he thought were the most complete ever in Kenny Dalglish and Alfredo Di Stefano.

The former is a Liverpool legend and played from 1969 to 1990. The latter spent 21 years on the pitch between 1945-1966. Discussing the pair, as quoted by talkSPORT, Best once said:

"The most complete player I ever saw and my hero in those days was Alfredo Di Stefano, the centre-forward, who it seemed to me could do absolutely everything.

"He could score goals, he could defend, he was good in the air, with both feet, exciting to watch, and Kenny [Dalglish], I was going to say is close to him but he's probably on a par with him as far as I'm concerned. For me, that's the highest compliment I can pay Kenny."

It's hard to argue with either of Best's picks. Dalglish is one of the most decorated footballers of all time and is regarded as one of Liverpool's greatest ever players. Similarly, Di Stefano is considered to be one of the best players to ever represent Real Madrid, only falling behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Both men were revolutionaries of football and helped pave the way for the later generations who are still trying to emulate what they achieved on the pitch.
