Report: How Liverpool's move for Marc Guehi impacts Alexander Isak; it's good news for…

Liverpool are closing in on a move for Marc Guehi, though it’s still good news for Newcastle United during this summer’s transfer window.

Newcastle wanted to sign Guehi in 2024 but saw a series of offers rejected by Crystal Palace.

Indeed, Newcastle remain interested in Guehi, who has just a year to go on his contract at Selhurst Park.

As such, he’s expected to move this summer, but St James’ Park may not prove to be his destination.

Still, ironically enough, it could be good news for Eddie Howe in his attempts to keep Isak at Newcastle.

Marc Guehi to Liverpool could keep Alexander Isak at Newcastle United

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are closing in on a move for Guehi.

It’s claimed that talks between all parties involved are expected to commence within the next 24 hours, with the Reds in pole position to seal his signature.

That is obviously a blow for Newcastle, who have tracked the defender for over a year now.

However, the report adds that Liverpool’s summer spending would likely be over with if they do sign Guehi even despite the links with Isak.

Newcastle United’s alternatives to Marc Guehi

Newcastle are looking into the European market in their search for a new defender, with Howe keen to bolster his defensive options.

Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle are interested in Ousmane Diomande, though the Sporting CP centre-back has also been linked with Palace as Guehi’s replacement.

Closer to home, Newcastle have been linked with Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke.

It remains to be seen if the club do sign a player they’ve been linked with. There’s always the chance they could pull a rabbit out of a hat and sign someone reasonably out of the blue, of course.

If losing out on Guehi keeps Liverpool from having the money to make a bid for Isak, then at least there’s a slight positive from the saga.
