CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville native Mike Brown and Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. both hosted kids football camps Saturday morning in Charlottesville.
Robinson’s camp was held at St. Anne’s Belfield.
“I just want to them to come out and have fun with me and feel my energy that I put on the football field,” says Robinson.
Robinson Jr. says when he was a kid he was inspired in summer camps learning from NFL players.
“I remember these days like it was yesterday,” says Robinson. “Those are moments that live with me throughout my career. My biggest goal is to leave an impact on some of these kids and leave a memory with these kids that will last years.”
For Robinson, it’s part of a summer break from the pros before heading to Commanders training camp in late July.
“I feel better than ever going into this season with this group of guys, mentally and physically,” says Robinson. “I can’t be more excited about where we are going with our team and it’s going to be an even better year.”
A few miles away at Monticello HS, Mike Brown hosted his camp for the 10th straight year. The Notre Dame receivers coach liked what he saw from the kids.
“They were enthusiastic and really eager to learn, that makes our jobs easy, it makes it fun,” says Brown. “It got competitive at times which is great.”
For the first time, MVP awards were given out.
“I’m glad we could do that,” says Brown. “I’m not big on individual awards but a big part of it was being a good teammate.”
A fun time for the kids on a hot summer morning.
“I Hoped they had fun,” says Brown. “I hoped they learned something, more importantly it’s about getting out of the house getting around people and learning out to communicate with teammates”
