Josh Jacobs excited to share backfield with Marshawn Lloyd

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - At his youth football camp on Friday, Packers running back Josh Jacobs spoke about the potential of Green Bay’s backfield with 2024 third-round pick Marshawn Lloyd entering his second season in the NFL.

In the lead-up to his rookie year, Lloyd battled hip and hamstring injuries. Lloyd battled back but ultimately played in just one game in 2024, finishing with 6 carries for 15 yards in Week 2 against the Colts before injuring his ankle late in the game. That injury landed him on injured reserve. As he was gearing up to get back on the field, Lloyd’s return was further delayed by appendicitis.

This offseason, Lloyd spent some time with the rehab group across offseason team activities and mandatory minicamp, but the mere fact that he was practicing at all shows some progress from last season.

In his junior season at USC, Lloyd tallied 820 rushing yards and recorded 7.1 yards per carry.

With Lloyd unavailable for most of the season, Jacobs ended up with 301 rushing attempts. That number ranked sixth in the NFL and was far and away the most for a Packers running back under head coach Matt LaFleur.

The idea of splitting opportunities with Lloyd is something that excites Jacobs entering his second season in Green Bay.

“Man, Marshawn looks really good,” Jacobs said on Friday. “He’s as healthy as he’s ever been. I’ve been telling him, I’m waiting to come out and be the best duo in football. I’ve been waiting for him. He looks like he’s gonna have a good year. I believe in him. He goes about things the right way. Y’all don’t see the time he actually puts in to studying and taking care of his body and trying to figure it out. I definitely got respect for him. I think it’s gonna be a good year for him.”
