FRISCO - Anybody who's ever as much as twisted an ankle knows the drill.
You "R.I.C.E.'' ... which stands for "rest, ice, compression and elevation.'' And that applies to even the least athletic Armchair Quarterback. "Rehab,'' in other words.
And then you eventually get on your feet. Gingerly, at first ... but with time, you are back playing basketball or going for a walk or Armchair Quarterbacking, and the injury is forgotten.
So it is with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Yes, Dak will surely concede he has spent too much time in the treatment room over the past couple of seasons.
The former fourth-round pick has only played a full season twice in the last five years due to a nasty ankle injury in 2020, a thumb injury in 2022 and a torn hamstring last season. This has made some believe he won't be able to recover.
So, how can Prescott ever be confident that his body won't break down again after so many injuries over the years? Speaking with Good Good Golf as he enjoyed nine holes with Will Grier and his brother, Tad, Prescott revealed all.
"It should happen in the rehab," Prescott said. "It's not a good thing, but when you've been injured like I have throughout my career, just different injuries, you really just grow to trust the surgery. If I had surgery, I had it for a reason, and I trust my rehab process, so I don’t really think about it once I’ve rehabbed, and especially the doc says you’re good to go."
"I don't really think about it'' represent six words to live by for the patient ...
But of course, it's a huge part about what Cowboys Nation is thinking about as camp approaches.
For most, the Cowboys' 2025 success hinges purely on whether Prescott can stay healthy and if his body can deal with the rigors of playing a full season.
It has been a tough task of late to do that, but he seems confident in his body after recovering from his hamstring injury.
Prescott participated in OTAs and minicamp, so the expectation is he will be full-go in Oxnard next month. Granted, the coaching staff might be a little cautious with its franchise star, but it appears the mental aspect of coming back is something Prescott has already gotten over.
Because he's already, we hope, not "really thinking about it'' anymore.
