Manchester United are focusing on improving their attack for the next season. They have already secured Cunha and are closing in on landing Mbeumo.
However, they do not want to stop and are pressing to sign a quality out and out center forward, someone who can end their goalscoring concerns once and for all.
News –Report – Manchester United agree £46.8million terms for signing
The Red Devils were keen on luring Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, but the youngster ended up signing for Chelsea.
Now, reports indicate that they are expected to lose out on another striker target in the form of Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish forward excelled under Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP and in 2024, he was the highest scoring striker in the continent.
Unfortunately, Man United will not take part in Europe and Gyokeres is ready to secure a move to Arsenal.
As per today’s version of O Jogo, Amorim has not ruled out the signing of the 27-year-old and has told the club directors to make an effort.
However, Arsenal have already made significant progress. They have submitted an offer worth 70 million euros, a figure they claim was agreed between Sporting and the player’s agent.
Still, president, Federico Varandas is determined to get a fee of 80 million euros (£68.3million) to sell the Lions’ prized asset in the summer transfer window.
The Portuguese media outlet have mentioned that Gyokeres wants to play in the top leagues in the world and prefers Arsenal, this is a huge blow for Man United, who cannot offer Champions League football next season.
The No.9 dilemma
Robin van Persie, now retired, was the last man to score more than 20 league goals for Manchester United in a season and in that campaign, they were able to win the Premier League, their last triumph.
Since then, the No.9 position has been a problem for the Red Devils. Ibrahimovic did well for a season but was past his prime, Falcao failed, Rashford and Martial were highly inconsistent.
More recently, Hojlund and Zirkzee have shown that they are not good enough to lead the frontline at Old Trafford.
So, Amorim needs a clinical finisher to start in the No.9 role. Delap is in London, and Gyokeres might end up in the capital as well. In your view, who should United target to solve the conundrum once and for all?
