Another day and Chelsea have been served with another disappointing transfer update regarding one of their targets. In the past few days, the Blues have seen a number of their shortlisted players either agreeing to personal terms with other teams or signing new contracts ,as Liam Delap remains their only new signing.
Chelsea’s intent to reinforce their defence is well known by now. They have been linked with a number of players for the role.
Jarrad Branthwaite is among them, as the Blues were keeping an eye on the player. The English defender has played a major role in Everton’s defence, and has attracted interest from a number of clubs as a result.
However, it looks like hopes of signing him this summer might already be over. As reported by Sky Sports Premier League, Everton are close to finalising a new contract with Branthwaite.

With this latest development, Chelsea may well wave their chances of signing the England international goodbye. Interestingly, since the beginning of the summer transfer window on June 16, the club haven’t completed a single signing. But of course, that doesn’t mean that the Blues will have a quiet window by any means.
The recent setbacks might be frustrating, but there’s still plenty of time left in this transfer window for the Blues to bring in multiple signings. That said, the coming weeks will be crucial for Chelsea as they look to bolster the squad ahead of next season, especially with their return to the Champions League.
A deal for Jamie Gittens is believed to be getting closer. Hopefully, the addition of a top, experienced centre-back is not far away. The Blues need a reliable and consistent partner for Levi Colwill, but curiously, they have also been linked with plenty of other left-sided centre-backs.
