In recent months, Manchester United have been in the planning stage for a new stadium with Omar Berrada central to this.

This stadium, which will replace Old Trafford, is planned to be the biggest in England and will feature not only a stadium but fan-zones alongside many other elements. These elements have all been planned with the aim of improving the local community.

However, now Omar Berrada has casted doubt over the possibility of the project going ahead, according to Mirror Sport.

In a recent interview with Red Issue fanzine, the Manchester United CEO stated that Untied “see the stadium as the catalyst for the wider regeneration project.”

However, he also expressed the need for government support with the project.

Commenting on the matter, the United CEO expressed the need for “the government to commit to developing the area around the stadium”.

This, according to Omar Berrada, is essential for the project to make sense. He also said that the club don’t want to “build the stadium as a standalone”.

Instead, he wants the stadium to be “a catalyst for one of the biggest, if not the biggest regeneration projects that this area of the country has ever seen.”

The Frenchman also expressed the benefits the project will have to the wider community in terms of homes, jobs and much more.

The United CEO is now hoping the “government will support it and put the funds behind it”.

Essentially, from this interview, we can see that the funds for the project as a whole haven’t been secured yet. Furthermore, we can see that in order for these funds to be secured, the government must support the project.

If these funds weren’t to be secured, the project and the stadium build would be unlikely to go ahead. This may be disastrous for the Red Devils and for the club’s short-term and long-term future.
