Liverpool transfer news as Jarell Quansah ‘medical booked’ and Alexander Isak ‘talks’ update

Jarrel Quansah’s Bayer Leverkusen medical is reportedly scheduled for Monday morning as the Liverpool defender’s exit draws closer.

Liverpool.com reported last week that a deal was expected to be concluded between the clubs, and Fabrizio Romano provided a fresh update on Saturday where he revealed the player will travel to Germany following England’s Euro-21 final.

The social media figure wrote on X: “Jarell Quansah set to undergo his medical at Bayer Leverkusen on Monday, all booked.

“Can confirm again buy back clause for Liverpool will be worth at least £60m and could even reach £70m based on add-ons. Initial fee also confirmed: £30m plus £5m.”

An initial fee of £30M ($41M) represents a club-record fee for Leverkusen in the summer where it has lost manager Xabi Alonso and key figures Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Florian Wirtz.

Under the management of Erik ten Hag, Leverkusen has already signed Mark Flekken and Ibrahim Maza and more arrivals are expected.

As for Quansah, he fell to fourth choice at the heart of defence under Arne Slot this season and started just four Premier League games.

Marc Guehi has been lined up as his replacement, with the Mirror claiming Liverpool is “closing in” on the Crystal Palace center-back, with talks due to take place across Saturday and Sunday.

Liverpool is said to be in “prime position”, although a few “final hurdles” remain, such as the player’s £40M ($55M) price tage.

Should the Reds bring in another defender, it could leave just one hole left to fill in the side: a new striker.

Alexander Isak’s name continues to be mentioned in reports, with fresh claims emerging on Saturday regarding his contract situation at Newcastle United.

The Chronicle states Eddie Howe could be forced to take a more hands-on role in leading negotiations over an extension given Newcastle executives Darren Eales and Paul Mitchell are set to leave.

The Magpies boss is described as “relaxed” with “quiet talks behind the scenes” taking place. The report adds there are “no fears internally that Isak will need settling down”, with the Swedish striker remaining an important part of Howe’s long-term plans.

Liverpool’s desire for a new no.9 could accelerate if Darwin Nunez departs soon. The former Benfica man has attracted interest from Napoli in recent weeks, and the Reds are open to letting the goal-shy striker move on.

Isak is widely seen as the best option on the market, although the likes of Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike have also been linked.
