Man United were exploring a move to sign Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite after talks with his agent, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that interest in the 23-year-old was being pushed by the agent.
David Reeves, founder of Revo Sports Management, has a previous working relationship with United’s Director of Football Jason Wilcox and held discussions over Branthwaite.
However, no agreement could be reached and he is instead closing in on an agreement over a new contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Everton are confident Branthwaite will sign a new deal to commit his long-term future to David Moyes’ project.
The Toffees moved to deter interest in the defender with a £100million price tag, and are now seeking to solidify their position with the offer of a new deal.

Everton close in on Branthwaite deal after Man United latest
Football Insider first revealed in March that Everton want Branthwaite to sign a new contract and are preparing to open talks at the end of the season.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, insisted that the defender is happy to stay at Everton despite his agent exploring a big-money move.
“*I’m expecting Branthwaite to sign a new contract at Everton,*” he told Football Insider.
“A lot of the talk about potential transfers to this club and that club was agent-led.
“I’m told that played quite a big role in the interest from Man United, because his agent has good connections at the club.
“He had been speaking to them about a deal, how much it would cost and all of that sort of thing.
“The interest was there, but how advanced it was is difficult to say because Everton were never keen to let him go and were demanding huge money.
“From the player’s point of view, he’s never pushed for a move and he’s happy to stay there.
“It will be the best step for all parties if he commits to a new deal.”

United have submitted a new offer of £60million including add-ons that has been rejected, but the club have not been deterred and are pressing forward in talks.
Football Insider revealed on 6 June that Man United will reach an agreement with Brentford, who are standing firm in their valuation of the wide man.
