A look at the top 10 Brentford goalscorers of all time, including the record holder for most goals in a season for the club.
Brentford have had some eye-catching goalscorers in recent years, be it Ivan Toney or the most recent, Bryan Mbeumo. But when it comes to their all-time top scorer list, the Bees haven’t had a new name since Lloyd Owusu, who left the club in 2007.
If he stays with the club, Mbeumo has a chance of joining this list, needing another 15 goals as of the summer of 2025, but it does look as though the wait will go on for a new entrant. Here we round up the current top 10 Brentford goalscorers of all time.
10. Idris Hopkins - 80
Welshman Idris Hopkins represented Brentford between 1932 and 1947. He scored 80 goals in all and made 314 appearances for the club across all competitions. He won 12 caps for Wales during his career.
Joint 8. Billy Scott - 86
Interestingly, Scott played for Brentford between the same years as Hopkins, making 296 appearances during the same 15-year span. Scott scored 86 goals across all competitions and won one England cap during his career.
Joint 8. Jack Lane 86
Lane played for Brentford between 1925 and 1931, making 234 appearances and scoring 86 times. He went on to join Crystal Palace after leaving the Bees.
7. Lloyd Owusu - 87
Owusu is the most recent player to join this list having had two spells at Brentford. He played for the club between 1998 and 2002, and he returned for a spell between 2005 and 2007. Owusu made 250 appearances and scored 87 times across all competitions. Owusu made four appearances for Ghana during his career.
6. Billy Lane - 89
Lane was only with Brentford between 1929 and and 1932 but he scored as many as 89 goals in just 123 appearances. He went on to spend time at Watford and Bristol City.
5. Dave McCulloch - 90
McCulloch also had a superb scoring rate with the Bees, scoring 90 goals in just 124 appearances. He went on to play for Derby County and Leicester City, making seven appearances for Scotland.
4. Gary Blissett - 105
Blissett made 291 appearances for Brentford between 1987 and 1983. He scored 105 times for the Bees and also spent a chunk of time at Crewe Alexandra prior to arriving in West London.
3. Jack Holliday - 121
Holliday represented the Bees between 1932 and 1939, making 222 appearances across all competitions. He scored 121 times, amassing an impressive scoring record and holds the record for the most goals in a season for the club. Aside from the six appearances he made for Middlesbrough at the very start of his career, Holliday spent his whole career at Brentford.
2. George Francis - 136
Francis had two spells at Brentford, first between 1955 and 1961, and then between 1961 and 1962. He scored 136 goals in 260 appearances and went on to spend time at Gillingham.
1. Jim Towers - 163
Towers has reigned supreme in this list for decades after racking up 163 goals in 282 appearances between 1954 and 1961. Towers came through at the Bees academy and proved to be a consistent goalscorer before going on to spend time with QPR, Millwall and others.
