49ers Enterprises have already kicked off their transfer business after taking over at Rangers.

The US consortium, joined by Andrew Cavenagh, completed a deal for the Gers earlier in the year and are now preparing for their first full season at the helm.

This has seen Paraag Marathe join the board at Ibrox to pair up with his role at the newly promoted Premier League side Leeds United.

As a result, it is little surprise that talks will have kicked off between the two sides, especially with the summer window now underway.

With new ownership at the helm in Govan, it is certainly going to be a busy window for the Light Blues after the failures of last campaign.

As a result, bringing in Russell Martin early on and giving him an opportunity to put a stamp on his side was certainly important.

This has already seen the Englishman kickstart business in G51 with the loan signing of Max Aarons from Bournemouth.

There are already prior links to the Englishman, with Martin’s assistant Matt Gill working with the defender in his days as Norwich City under-23s boss.

This also saw the 25-year-old work with current Leeds United boss Daniel Farke, who The Herald reported (29 June, page 68) wanted the full-back at Elland Road in the summer of 2023.

That deal never went through in the end, and now Aarons finds himself at Rangers, where Marathe is keen to lean on best practices from his work with the Whites.

This has resulted in an open dialogue between the two 49ers clubs, with senior figures keeping in contact being a common feature despite no multi-club agreement being in place.

Leeds United wanted Aarons before Rangers move

It says a lot about the right-back that Farke wanted him in Yorkshire after coming in as head coach with the remit of earning promotion from the Championship.

This is likely to excite the Ibrox faithful, who have been calling out for a new right-back option for many years, as James Tavernier heads towards 34 years of age.

It is fair to say that excitement is only going to increase with the prospect of direct links with Leeds, which could hand the Gers a boost moving forward.
