Newcastle United transfer target James Trafford sent a one-word message to Elliot Anderson on social media after England won the U21 European Championship final.

England beat Germany in the U21 Euros final, with Newcastle United star Tino Livramento and former Newcastle academy graduate Anderson among their star performers.

Trafford, of course, helped the Young Lions win this competition in 2023, along with Toon star Anthony Gordon.

Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle have had a £26million bid rejected for Trafford, with Burnley holding out for more than £30million.

The goalkeeper has already agreed personal terms with Eddie Howe’s side and sent a message to Anderson on Instagram on Saturday, though the Geordie moved to correct him.

Elliot Anderson corrects James Trafford after Newcastle United links

Anderson took to the social media platform after the full-time whistle. He posted an image of himself holding the trophy and captioned the post: “EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS.”

In response, Trafford wrote “Haway”. Anderson then corrected him, responding with “*Howay.”

‘Haway’, of course, is the spelling of the word most commonly associated with Sunderland fans. ‘Howay’ is synonymous with the Geordie faithful. It’s certainly notable the Burnley stopper would do that on the day Newcastle saw an offer rejected.

Newcastle didn’t want to sell Anderson, but had to in order to avoid a potential points deduction from the Premier League for breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

It’s looking increasingly as if they’re going to regret that decision in the years to come.

Anderson has been tipped for the top and put in another fine performance as the Young Lions defended their crown.
