Manchester United’s financial situation is such that they can’t afford to sit tight on too many of their players, but they have on one, and that ship has passed them by now.
It is an open secret that most of the players in the Man Utd squad are on the market for the right price, with “for the right price” being an important factor.
So far, Man Utd haven’t managed to sell anybody for a good fee, and have already spent close to £120m, assuming Bryan Mbeumo walks through the doors of Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that United did receive a loan offer for one struggling star with an ‘easy’ obligation to buy, which they rejected. Now, there might not be another.

Fabrizio Romano on Rasmus Hojlund transfer latest
As Joshua Zirkzee completed a turnaround in his fortunes at Man Utd, the spotlight is firmly on Rasmus Hojlund when talking about players on the chopping block.
Hojlund has expressed his desire to stay, but if United feel they can get an upgrade by selling him, that’s not a decision that will disappoint many Man Utd fans.
As per Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, United did receive an offer for Hojlund from Inter that effectively guaranteed them a fee next summer, but they rejected it.
United are insisting on a permanent deal straight away, and even ‘easy’ obligations didn’t sit right with them.

He said: “There was a strong interest from Inter. They made contact with the player side and with the club side. For Hojlund, they still don’t have any sort of agreement with Man Utd. Inter wanted to start with a loan deal with a buy option to become an obligation with quite easy conditions.
“United insist on a permanent transfer, or the player is staying, so there is still a gap between the parties. At the moment, nothing is agreed.”
Hojlund to Inter ship might have sailed
While it is understandable that United don’t want the risk of repeating what happened with Sancho regarding the obligation to buy, Inter’s offer might have sailed forever.
Romano added that since their offer for Hojlund, they’ve signed Ange-Yoan Bonny, the 21-year-old striker from Parma, while Francesco Pio Esposito has broken out.
Esposito has scored at the Club World Cup, so Inter are reconsidering their stance on buying Hojlund as well because it could hinder his development.
As such, it increasingly looks like the Hojlund to Inter ship might have sailed. It will be a bittersweet outcome for Man Utd.
On one hand, United see Hojlund with untapped potential, so it could be a blessing in disguise if he bounces back next season.
On the other hand, another season of performances from him, like in 2024/25, will almost certainly prevent United from selling teams on his “potential” anymore.
Only the player can influence how this ages.
