Chelsea are pushing to secure a deal for Newcastle United target Joao Pedro.

Chelsea are reportedly in pole position to hijack Newcastle United’s move for Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro.

The Blues have reached a £55million agreement to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund with his medical taking place over the weekend.

With the transfer close to being finalised, Enzo Maresca has turned his focus to strengthening other areas of his attack. And according to Fabrizio Romano, talks have “intensified” over signing Pedro.

It comes after Newcastle saw a £45million plus £5m add-ons bid rejected this week.

Chelsea in ‘intensified talks’ with Brighton’s Joao Pedro

Romano wrote on X: “Understand Chelsea have now intensified talks to advance on João Pedro deal!

“Chelsea are focused on João deal with Brighton after signing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens with medical yesterday. Newcastle had two proposals rejected by Brighton… and Chelsea now pushing.”

And in a further blow to Newcastle, the Daily Mail claims the Brazilian is leaning towards a move to Chelsea.

Brighton teammate reveals Joao Pedro

Perhaps that was made obvious earlier this month when Brighton teammate Igor Julio revealed Pedro “really wants to live in London”.

Fellow Brazilian Igor told Trivela: “Joao Pedro had already told Brighton some time ago that his desire was to leave, look for new things and take the next step.

“It seems it will be difficult and complicated for him to stay here, we have to be honest, the club already knows that he said in contact with the report via video call.

“I told him that he has to think about what he wants from his career. In my opinion, if I were going to a Big Six team, I would go to a team that competes in the Premier League, plays in the Champions League and is always in a position to win.

“I would go to a Liverpool team and I think he would fit in perfectly at Liverpool. It's because I've always dreamed of playing for Liverpool and I would go there. He always told me that he really wants to live in London, so I think he will prioritise what comes from there first.
