Player demands ‘face to face’ meeting as he tries to force Arsenal transfer through

Viktor Gyökeres was instrumental in helping Sporting win the title in last two seasons and wants to leave them for Arsenal.

On Friday, we covered claims from Portugal that the 27-year-old doesn’t want to return for preseason and immediately move to Arsenal.

Earlier today, O Jogo reported the striker has been given permission to join on July 7th, a week after Sporting start their preseason preparations. He was granted this as Arsenal try to tussle in to sign him.

Saturday’s edition of Correio da Manhã states the Sweden international ‘demands face to face’ meeting with Sporting president Frederico Varandas. This meeting is likely to take place after he returns to the club for preseason.

The newspaper states the former Brighton & Hove Albion man wants to discuss ‘unfulfilled promises’ related to his transfer and a few other information that has been reported in the media.

Gyökeres has a €100m release clause and the Lions president has agreed to sell him for less than that. Varandas has already said he hasn’t set a price while the frontman’s agent reportedly insists a €60m plus bonuses was agreed between them.

Correio da Manhã state: ‘Gyökeres understands what was promised isn’t being fulfilled. In addition, he wants to understand how so much information that is not true came to be echoed in the media. The truth is that Gyökeres wants to leave, and this meeting could also serve as pressure for Sporting to accept an offer.’

Despite claims of Manchester United’s interest, they only mention Arsenal. The Gunners are in the front row to secure his services and hope the player can exert pressure to the president to secure an exit.
