‘Talks taking place’: Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea are already pushing to sign £50m star after Jamie Gittens

Chelsea have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup following a convincing 3-1 win over Benfica.

While the focus remains on winning the competition and reaping huge financial gains, work continues behind the scenes to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

One of the names heavily linked with Chelsea is Jamie Gittens, and as previously reported by TBR Football, Gittens also wants a move to Stamford Bridge.

The player has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea ahead of the Club World Cup, with the club now expected to finalise an agreement with Borussia Dortmund.

As the Gittens deal nears completion, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed an exciting update on Chelsea’s next transfer target.

Chelsea want to sign Brighton’s Joao Pedro next

Brighton striker Joao Pedro has been attracting attention this summer, with Newcastle and Chelsea strongly linked with a move.

TBR Football reported that Brighton have turned down a £50m bid from Newcastle for the player.

As per Fabrizio Romano’s most recent update on the situation, Chelsea are now fully involved in the Pedro deal, with ‘talks taking place’.

As per the journalist, Chelsea view Pedro as their next target after they wrap up the Gittens deal.

They will face stiff competition from the Magpies who have identified Pedro as their top target as well having been trying to sign him since May.

Chelsea’s move for Joao Pedro could hurt Liverpool’s chances of signing Alexander Isak

Brighton are reportedly demanding £60 million for Pedro, having already turned down £50m bids.

With only a small gap between the valuation and the bid, an agreement seems likely if an improved offer is made.

Both Chelsea and Newcastle can afford to meet Brighton’s asking price, making the race for Pedro highly competitive. However, Liverpool will be quietly hoping Newcastle come out on top.

That’s because Alexander Isak is Liverpool’s dream signing, and if Newcastle land Pedro, he could be viewed as a natural successor to Isak, potentially opening the door for the Reds to make their move for the Swedish striker.

Isak would be a perfect fit for the Premier League champions, who have already strengthened significantly with the arrivals of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez this summer.

Add Isak to that mix, and Liverpool could be truly unstoppable next season.
