Manchester United continue to chase a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo this summer.
The Reds are set to return to training in the week beginning July 7, having already secured one new signing. United triggered the £62.5 million release clause in Matheus Cunha's contract earlier this month, bringing the Wolves forward to Old Trafford on a five-year deal, with an option for an additional year.
United's pre-season campaign kicks off against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19. Shortly after their Swedish excursion, they will fly to the United States to take part in the Premier League Summer Series, where they will face West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.
There is hope at Old Trafford that Mbeumo will be able to join his potential new teammates ahead of a crucial pre-season for Ruben Amorim's squad. Below is a round-up of all the latest news on Brentford's Cameroonian international....
Improved bid
The Manchester Evening News understands that United submitted an improved bid in excess of £60m. The Reds' initial £55m offer was rejected, with Brentford said to be aiming for around £63m.
'Bid rejected'
The Reds have reportedly submitted an improved bid worth up to £62.5m for Mbeumo that has been rejected by Brentford.
It is being widely reported that United have bid £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old. It is claimed the Bees would want at least the same fee as Wolves have received for Cunha up front before they agree to the sale of a player who still has a year left on his contract.
United approval
Journalist Fabrizio Romano posted on Instagram with the latest transfer claim regarding United's efforts to sign Mbeumo.
He wrote: "BREAKING: Man United remain in active talks for Bryan Mbeumo, bid to be improved! Despite no agreement reached so far with Brentford, Man United keep talks ongoing remaining confident…
"…with club to club negotiations to continue over final details for add-ons, fee structure and more to follow. Mbeumo has been clear: he wants Man United."
The post received over 413,000 likes, and among them were two of United's current squad members, Matheus Cunha and Joshua Zirkzee.
Transfer 'preference'
Mbeumo has reportedly informed Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur of his decision to sign for United if he leaves the Bees this summer.
It is said that Spurs' admiration for Mbeumo increased after Thomas Frank moved from Brentford to become their new head coach. But The Athletic report that Mbeumo has notified Frank and Brentford that if he departs the Gtech Community Stadium this summer, it will be for Old Trafford.
Frank warning
Former manager Thomas Frank warned in May that Mbeumo's sale would need to be for a substantial fee.
"It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount," he said. "It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot. Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done.
"There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for."
