Fabrizio Romano revealed that the salary of Jadon Sancho remains an issue for Manchester United to sell him this summer. Sancho has attracted interest from several different clubs but struggles to leave the Red Devils due to his astronomical wages.
The 25-year-old helped Premier League rivals Chelsea qualify for the Champions League last season and won the UEFA Conference League. Sancho has remained an outcast at Old Trafford since his public spat with former manager Erik ten Hag in 2023.
The England international fulfilled a loan spell at former club Borussia Dortmund during the second half of the 2023-24 season. Despite triggering the obligation to buy clause, Chelsea opted to pay the £5m penalty, rather than spending up to £25m.

Chelsea failed to find a compromise in Sancho’s wages, leading to his return to the Red Devils this summer. We All Follow United covered that Napoli and Juventus are also interested in Sancho during the early stages of the window.
Meanwhile, recent reports suggest that Jose Mourinho has opted not to sign Sancho for Fenerbahce after talking to Ruben Amorim. The report speculated that Amorim warned Mourinho that Sancho’s motivation is financial, which sums up his continuous struggles with inconsistencies.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that salary remains an issue for United to sell Sancho this summer. He said:
“My understanding is that between Fenerbahce and Sancho, the situation is currently very quiet. It is not advanced, it is not concrete, it is not progressing at the moment. The situation is very very quiet. The expectation is for Manchester United to wait for someone who can really sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent transfer, or pay the whole salary of Jadon Sancho. At the moment, calls from Napoli two weeks ago, then Juventus from Italy again, Fenerbahce story in the media, but at the moment, no one wants to cover the full salary of Jadon Sancho. So the salary is the topic and was also the topic for Chelsea.”
United signed Sancho for £73m from Dortmund in the summer of 2021, after his incredible tenure in Germany. The 25-year-old is one of the many transfer mistakes that the Red Devils have made in the past decade.
