‘Aiming for €100m’ – Aston Villa and Newcastle United chased off with huge asking price

One of the names likely not getting enough mentions in the transfer window so far is Samu Omorodion Aghehowa.

With some of the fees being thrown around for other strikers, and given FC Porto only paid €15m for 50% of his transfer rights (Atletico Madrid are entitled to the rest, but Porto can buy a further 30% for €10m), there’s a profit to be made.

Sunday’s edition of O Jogo covers claims of interest from clubs such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United but makes it clear that a sale isn’t happening this summer. Neither Porto or, more intriguingly, the player’s camp are pushing for a move.

O Jogo explain that when Porto do sell they’re ‘aiming for €100m’, the value of the 21-year-old’s release clause and an amount which would scare off Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Samu scored 27 goals in 45 matches for Porto last season, and he’s in the process of graduating from Spain’s U21 set up to becoming a regular full international.

With the World Cup on the horizon, if Samu continues his development that €100m may not be too much of a pipe dream for Porto.
